VFL MATCH CENTRE: Round 5 v Lions

ZEBRAS 0.6 1.9 3.12 5.14 (44)
LIONS 3.3 8.9 10.13 13.15 (93)

Hugh Boxshall

24 disposals, 10 tackles, eight clearances

Had a strong game in the contest once again and continues to show his talent as an inside mid. His ability to apply pressure on the opposition and gather contested possessions is a real standout.

Arie Schoenmaker

29 disposals, seven marks, five intercepts

Arie is continuing to work on his ability to defend, particularly in our defensive 50 as a taller, hybrid key defender. Did a good job in the second half of doing that and limiting his direct opponents influence on the game.

Harry Boyd

18 disposals, 33 hitouts, seven clearances

Competed well again and had some dominance in the ruck contests with his hitouts to advantage and his follow up is really strong. He’s continuing to work on his ability to impact the game in general play.

Angus Hastie

24 disposals, six marks, four intercepts

Coming off some good performances this season, we felt as though this week he needed to find a better balance between attack and defence, but is showing continued improvements in other areas of his game.

Alix Tauru

17 disposals, eight marks, nine intercepts

We saw Alix’s real strengths flourish, particular in the second half, with his impact in the air and his follow up in the contest. Making some really good progress in his few games so far.

Liam O'Connell

13 disposals, nine marks, four tackles

Showed great leadership and knowledge of the game plan, helping his teammates and executing which has always been a strength of his. Was valuable in attack while playing as a high defender.

Tobie Travaglia

20 disposals, seven marks

Played a half as a mid and showed his strengths with his ability to run, spread and outnumber. Played as a high halfback in the second half which has been a focus of his to improve.

Jack Carroll

22 disposals, six tackles, six clearances, five inside 50s

First game back from injury. Said himself that he felt a big sluggish to begin but worked his way into the contest in the second half and saw some of his attributes around stoppage in particular.

Max Heath

12 disposals, 17 hitouts, four clearances

Had some impact in the air and in ruck contests, now just working on his ability to impact the game in general play and continuing working to follow up around the ground.

Liam Henry

17 disposals, three inside 50s

Played as a high half forward and we saw more of his attributes and ability to run strong offensive patterns when we have the ball. There’s more consistency in his ability to come back to the ball and be clean around congestion.

James Barrat

16 disposals, six marks, 12 intercepts

Made some good progress, with his strength still being his ability in the air. He’s now working on his decision-making on when to mark or spoil when getting put out of position but is making continued improvement as he develops into a strong key defender in the long term.

Alex Dodson

Six disposals, two inside 50s

Played predominantly as a forward and is still learning his craft. Showing some good signs and learning when to lead up and when to be a long kick target for us with his size and work in the air.
