ST KILDA coach Scott Watters has paid tribute to Jack Steven’s development both on and off the field in recent times.

The 22-year-old, who has just signed on with the Saints until the end of the 2015 season, has impressed those within the club with his dedication to training and work ethic.

“He’s a great story Jack,” Watters said. “[He] is probably our most professional trainer.

“He won our most professional training award up until Christmas which was presented whilst we were in Colorado; So his professionalism and maturity starting to come through now as a 22 year-old is fantastic.”

Steven’s breakout year was in 2011, when he played 21 games and averaged 19.6 disposals per match. Last year, he was thrust into the midfield and competed admirably, finishing in the Saints top five for contested possessions and clearances.

It’s his attitude around the club however, which leads many to believe Steven is a future leader at St Kilda.

“He is really well liked around the club … he’s maturing as a person. His stature is growing so he is going to be a key midfield component for a number of years,” Watters said.

Steven has played 51 AFL games and booted 41 goals and in 2012 he finished a pleasing 10th in St Kilda’s best and fairest.
