ST KILDA defender Sam Fisher will miss the remainder of the AFL season after scans revealed he requires an operation on his toe.

Fisher has been managing the injury for most of the season however it was recently decided that the best course of action would be for him to undergo surgery to the degenerative toe.

The two-time best and fairest winner will have surgery next week.

“I’m disappointed that my season has come to an end but I intend to spend the rest of the year working with the club’s younger players and getting myself ready for a full pre-season,” Fisher said.

Fisher is expected to be back in training for day one of the 2014 pre-season.
