JIMMY Webster was pleased with his performance against the Lions, and he had every right to be.

The classy left-footer had a career-high 15 disposals at a typically proficient 80 per cent, further illustrating his elite kicking skills that complement his ability to read the play from half-back.

"I was pretty happy with my performance," Webster told SAINTS.com.au on Saturday night. "It was a big focus from last week to join in and no trailing so that's what I focussed on today and it was probably my best game yet - I'm loving it."

The 20-year-old back flanker put much of his 2013 improvement down to Scott Watters and the rest of the coaching panel, but also praised a couple of his teammates for their leadership over the past two seasons.

"It's been great how Seany Dempster and Jarryn Geary have really taken me under their wing," he said. "They are two blokes that play a similar sort of role to what I play. So during the week I watch footage of who I am going to come up against and these two guys have been a great help to me."

St Kilda's came within two goals of Brisbane midway through the third term on Saturday night, before the Lions kicked away and eventually won by 31 points. Webster put the third quarter comeback down to a few simple structural changes during the main break.

"We came out and were really competitive in the third term. We changed the structure a little bit at half-time and just wanted to go man-on-man and just beat our direct opponent. That was a pretty heavy focus for us and it certainly worked for a bit."

Webster has played 10 AFL games after debuting in St Kilda's round seven win over Carlton.
