JASON Holmes had never heard of Nick Riewoldt this time last year. In fact, Holmes had never been to an AFL game until a couple of months ago.

But now the two are teammates after St Kilda signed the 203-centimetre former college basketballer on a two-year international rookie contract.

Riewoldt caught up with Holmes on Sunday in Austin, Texas at the USAFL Championships where the St Kilda skipper was due to participate in pre-game ceremonies and awards presentations.

It’s hard to believe but the 23-year-old American towers over the iconic Saint. Holmes also recorded a vertical leap of 97 centimetres at the Draft Combine earlier this month, just four centimetres short of Nic Naitanui’s record.
