St Kilda has appointed former Carlton and North Melbourne player and West Coast Eagles Assistant Coach David Teague to its senior coaching panel.

Teague will join the Saints as its defensive line coach for 2014.

The 32-year-old played 33 games for North Melbourne and 50 games for Carlton in a six-year AFL career spanning 2001 to 2006. He won the John Nicholls medal as Carlton’s Best and Fairest in 2004, the same year that he won the Robert Rose medal as the league's Most Courageous Player as voted by the AFL Players’ Association.

After his career came to a close in 2006, Teague signed on as playing coach with Carlton’s VFL aligned team the Northern Bullants, which was combined with a full-time development role at the Blues.

Teague coached the Bullants to two VFL Grand Finals before moving to the West Coast Eagles, where he has spent the past three years as an Assistant Coach under John Worsfold.

This appointment comes as Saints Player Academy Manager, Tony Micale advised the Club that he would like to return home to Perth at the end of this year.

Micale played an important role for St Kilda's player academy in 2013, overseeing its development coaches while working closely with the younger players.

Micale had previously worked as part of the West Coast Eagles' coaching panel and has had an extensive career coaching WAFL clubs East Fremantle, South Fremantle and East Perth.
