DEFENDER Sam Fisher is unlikely to play in St Kilda’s opening match against Melbourne this weekend after suffering from back stiffness.

Fisher trained over the weekend in preparation for Round 1 but is now in some doubt to play after having a facet joint injection on Monday.

While it is unlikely the defender will line up against the Dees on Saturday, the club will assess him further later in the week and isn’t ruling him out from the selection table just yet.

A club injury update will be provided at SAINTS.com.au on Tuesday.
