New Zealand scholarship holder Joe Baker-Thomas is representing his home town Porirua as they bid to become the most connected city in the Southern Hemisphere.
The competition is called Gigatown New Zealand and the winning city will be the first to receive next generation broadband.
The rollout of this broadband connection has a speed of 1GB per second – significantly quicker than anywhere else in New Zealand.
Currently it takes around 26 minutes to buffer a 60 minute YouTube video. With this technology, it will take just 2.7 seconds to load.
Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett says that his town is “New Zealand’s youngest and most diverse city” and is committed to winning this competition so Porirua can become the most connected community in the Southern Hemisphere.
All you have to do is jump on to social media and hashtag: #gigatownporirua. Each piece of hashtag content will earn Giga-points against competing towns and cities across New Zealand.
Since St Kilda is forging an international base in Wellington, and Porirua is a neighbouring city, we are urging all Saints fans to support this remarkable initiative.
Help out Joe Baker-Thomas in his quest to give his home town Porirua the fastest net in the southern hemisphere! Hashtag this: #GIGATOWNPOR
