A RICH collection of past St Kilda greats gathered last Saturday to celebrate the beginning of the 2014 season.
Former St Kilda ruckman and prominent Australian businessman Lindsay Fox hosted the event at his Toorak residence, with former players from as far back as the 1966 Grand Final and as recent as Justin Koschitzke and Jason Blake in attendance.
“So many people are dying,” Fox told SAINTS.com.au.
“As they fall off the perch, we want to make sure we don’t say we should have done this sort of function last week. So that’s the purpose of today.”
While the catch-up was a brainchild of Fox’s, he required the help of many of his former teammates to pull the function together, one of whom was Neill Roberts.
The 1958 Brownlow medallist delivered a typically engrossing speech in which he thanked Lindsay Fox for hosting the event, but also told a number of stories stemming from his playing days at the club.
“This is a really enjoyable day for all of us past players,” Roberts said. “I love catching up with all my mates, and it’s great to see Justin Koschitzke and Jason Blake here too.”
Following the gathering, two large buses chartered the St Kilda greats and many of their partners to Etihad Stadium, where they sat and watched the Saints defeat Melbourne by 17 points.
