ANY long-distance relationship has its challenges.

Just ask Queensland couple Bev and Murray Browne, who for nearly 40 years have been in a committed relationship with their beloved St Kilda.

They are a match made in heaven and since marrying at Moorabbin Oval, the pair has been with the Saints for better and for worse, in sickness and in health and they’ve vowed to love the footy club till death does them part.

Asked why she fell in love with the red, white and black, Bev tells SAINTS.com.au it was an instant connection.

“They got in my blood, and under my skin and I just want them to have the success to club deserves,” Bev said.

“That underdog thing is part of it. You have to stick with them, there’s no good just enjoying the good times. It’s part of the deal, in any relationship you have you have to stick through the good times and the bad, and we will come back.”

Bev and Murray head up St Kilda’s interstate supporter group in Queensland after leaving Melbourne’s bayside suburbs for a much sunnier place on the Gold Coast.

Bev says the distance only makes her heart grow fonder for her beloved Saints.

“(When we first moved) we had to ring the club on occasions to get a score because there was just nothing in the media up here,” she said.

“When St Kilda come up here it’s very special, Melbourne people don’t know how lucky they are.  We just love to see the players come up here and see them train.  Just to have that brief access to them, it’s a little bit like a finals game for us.

“I’m always amazed when the players recognise you, because we don’t see them very often… it means a lot.”

Bev is one of more than 5000 interstate members across the country who support the Saints, with around 15 interstate and country supporter groups based across Australia.

Supporters based in New South Wales are invited to join in the activities this week with the Harbor City Saints hosting a post-game function at a hotel near the SCG.  For more information, please click here.
