St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis has committed to being part of a group called “Male Champions of Change” which will advance gender equity across elite sport.
As one of thirteen chief executives from seven elite Australians sports, Finnis is among representatives from Swimming Australia, Basketball Australia, NRL, A-League, Cricket, Tennis Australia and the AFL.
The charter of the group is to actively advance gender equity across elite sport, with a particular focus on leadership, talent development, public advocacy and accountability.
“We know that women are under represented in leadership positions across elite sport and this newly formed group will hopefully be the beginning of instigating meaningful change,” St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis said.

“Sport has the ability transcend our communities so it’s important we start creating opportunities and learning about the barriers that exist to move forward.”
Sex Discrimination Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, Elizabeth Broderick, chairs the group and said harnessing the collective influence of these leaders will help to create change.
“The Male Champions of Change model asks men to step up alongside women to drive meaningful change. This strategy recognises that most organisational power sits with men and they must be integral to delivering change in their organisation and advocating for it more broadly,” Ms Broderick said.
"The accessibility of sport to the broader community is what makes this initiative so exciting - it has the capacity to create change on so many levels and I look forward to working with this committed group of CEO’s.”
