Sandringham senior coach and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson runs a ruler over the individual performance of the Saints-listed players following Saturday's preliminary final defeat.
MATCH REPORT: Zebras bow out, but not without a fight
Tom Simpkin
I felt that Tommy didn’t quite have the impact as he did the week before. We were undersized down back, especially when Mitch Brown went forward, so it wasn’t easy for him down there. To his credit, he continued to work hard. It was a tough gig.
Ahmed Saad
Ahmed kicked a couple of goals and applied some decent pressure. He probably didn’t get as much of the ball as what we would have liked, but whenever he was around it he looked dangerous.
Eli Templeton
Eli played as a wingman and high half-forward and struggled to get into the game. He would have learnt a lot and he will have a point to prove next season. He’s had a couple of injuries which have made things tough for him this year.
Cameron Shenton
Cam had a couple of goals kicked on him early but racked up 22 possessions and had to play a bit taller in defence than what we would have ideally liked. He gave us good run and was always aggressive in his ball use.
Darren Minchington
I thought Darren was best on ground. 34 disposals, 15 clearances, 2 goals and 7 tackles. He looked like a class above and really stepped up. It was fantastic.
Daniel Markworth
Daniel had a quiet game but did do a reasonable job on Hawthorn’s Matt Spangher, who was hurting us.
Tom Curren
Tommy worked hard all afternoon. He played some good footy and had 21 touches. Looking at his return from a holistic perspective, it was a fantastic effort for Tom to get back into the side after missing three months with a broken leg.
Brodie Murdoch
Brodie was good across half-back. He snuck down and kicked a goal, but his best work was on the rebound.
Arryn Siposs
Arryn kicked a goal and played predominantly forward and wing. He wasn’t quite as damaging with his foot skills as he has been in past weeks, but he still impacted the contest and provided great voice and leadership.
Josh Saunders
Josh was down on possessions but still played a good game. He is capable of winning 25 or 30 touches, but his defensive efforts were excellent all afternoon. Offensively, he just had one of those days where the ball didn’t quite fall his way.
Daniel McKenzie
Daniel had a real crack on the weekend. He probably didn’t get as much of the ball as he would have liked, but he’s so courageous and sometimes you forget he’s only a first year player. Another pre-season in the gym will make him a substantially better player because one thing I can’t question is his desire to compete.
Lewis Pierce
Lewis started in the ruck and was a handy link player around the ground for most of the game. He was competitive in the ruck and we ended up winning the clearances.
Jason Holmes
Jason competed in the ruck. I gave him a bit of a bake at one stage because he wasn’t overly strong in a marking contest. Straight afterwards, he runs on, picks up the ball, hits up Minchington who kicks a goal. His response was very pleasing.
Boys get round of applause as they walk off. So close, fought hard to the very end! #GoZebs pic.twitter.com/3W5emuOL1G
