This is how forwards coach Aaron Hamill assessed the seasons of his forwards.
Maverick Weller
Mav’s role evolved this year and he performed strongly throughout. Although he still spent some time in the midfield, his pressure and aggression at the ball was a valuable resource forward of centre. He was rewarded with the Player Trademark Award and thoroughly deserved this recognition.

VOTE: Goal of the year
Jack Billings
It was disappointing that Jack missed the second half of the season because he was showing some really promising signs. His running capacity and body work improved immensely, and his last quarter against the Bulldogs in round six was brilliant. I look forward to seeing what JB can produce in 2016 after a full pre-season.

Josh Bruce
Josh was our leading goal-kicker this year and even if he didn’t kick many bags late in the season, he continued to work very hard. Along with Armo, he was probably our biggest improver which came as a result of his desire to compete and contest. He’ll only get better which is exciting.

Jack Lonie
Jack was a breath of fresh air in his first season of AFL football. He regularly provided a spark and put his good skills to good use. Obviously there is a need for him to get stronger so he can compete physically with the bigger guys, but his effort this year both during games and at training was terrific. His defensive pressure plus his willingness to work will hold him in good stead.

Paddy McCartin
Paddy showed some really promising signs this season. It was good that he was able to get a run in the seniors and he probably learnt a great deal about his own footy in this time. We’ll continue to work with Paddy on all aspects of his game, but he has a great attitude and we expect him to enter 2016 in really good physical shape.

Tim Membrey
Tim had an impressive first season at the club. His defensive work in the forward half often goes unnoticed externally, but internally we really value his tackling and ability to apply pressure. Unfortunately Tim won’t run until after Christmas because of a shoulder reconstruction, but he should be fine to start 2016 in excellent health.

Darren Minchington
Darren dominated VFL football at times this season, which meant that he got some opportunities to show us what he could do at the senior level. He kicked the first two goals at Geelong and showed promising signs as a strong-bodied half-forward. The challenge for Darren in 2016 is to take his game from excellent VFL player to consistent AFL performer.

Brenton Payne
This season was always going to be a year of development for Brenton. He’s still lightly framed and raw, but with another pre-season under his belt we expect him to take steps forward next season. He played predominantly as a high half-forward this year and also spent some time at half-back. We anticipate he will play a more permanent forward-line role in 2016.

Nick Riewoldt
Nick continues to be an outstanding leader and an inspirational player. Early season injuries and difficult personal issues made it hard for the skipper to reach full fitness before about halfway through the year, but once he did, we saw glimpses of the Roo of old. He’ll have a good break now, get himself right, and come back as motivated as ever next year. He’s a star and is a terrific role model for our young guys.

Josh Saunders
Josh had a consistent season in the VFL and forced his way into the senior team for a couple of games. Spots were hard to come by for most of the year, but Josh continued to put his head over the ball and win plenty of it, often notching 25 disposals as a half-forward/midfielder for Sandringham. Josh’s running capacity is elite and he’ll continue to build other aspects of his game this pre-season.
Ahmed Saad
Ahmed was a livewire early in the season before a slight drop in form saw him go back to the VFL. He continued to work hard and played an important role for Sandringham in what was a strong year for them.

Adam Schneider
Adam got some continuity into his footy for the first time in a couple of years. His form, especially in the first half of the year, was really strong. His leadership was exceptional and he was often like another assistant coach out there. Adam has been a really important member of our club for a number of years now and I wish him all the best in retirement.

Jack Sinclair
Jack played more games than other first-year player this year. He has an extremely durable body and is an excellent decision maker. No situation overawes the young man and I am excited to see him progress next year. Certainly we want him to get more of the ball so that he can further utilise his cool and calm decision making.

Arryn Siposs
Arryn had a difficult season because of a shoulder reconstruction. It wasn’t until about early June when he returned and it took him a while to get back into the swing of things. He played a couple of really strong VFL games late in the piece and booted some nice long goals. This time of year is always difficult in terms of list management and I wish Arryn all the best for whatever comes next.
Eli Templeton
Eli had an up and down year. He did some quality things both offensively and defensively, but probably let himself down as far as consistency was concerned. He’ll rebound next year. At his best, he’s a really important player for us. Looking forward to a big summer!
Spencer White
Spencer had a few really strong performances for Sandringham but couldn’t break into the senior side. At his best, Spencer was terrific and highly damaging. It was a shame his season ended early due to an ankle injury as I would have liked to have seen what he could produce in a VFL finals series. I wish Spencer all the best for the future.
