ST KILDA skipper Nick Riewoldt has paid tribute to everyone that has contributed to Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision since it was established four months ago.

Speaking from Texas in the USA, Riewoldt said raising $750,000 in such a short space of time was a ‘significant achievement’ for a charity created in honour of his late sister Maddie.

“The support that we’ve had from everyone across Australia means we can start dishing the money out and approving research grants,” Riewoldt told Triple M’s Rush Hour.

“It’s great for all the people suffering that they know they have support and someone backing them. We’re really proud and thankful for all the support we’ve received.

“The job is by no means finished but it is a really good start.”

The money raised over the last 16 weeks will go directly towards helping sufferers of Bone Marrow Disease.

$314,000 alone was raised before and during Maddie’s Match in round 16 – further illustrating the good will of the football public.

While it is yet to be confirmed by the AFL, MRV hopes Maddie’s Match can become a yearly occasion to not only celebrate her legacy, but help fulfil her dream of finding a cure for the fatal illness.

“It was her vision to find a cure for Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome and raising money is the best way to do that,” Riewoldt said.

“We’re providing financial assistance for the expansion of the only Aplastic Anaemia Registry in the world, which is a really significant achievement.

“That allows researchers and doctors to share data across all treatments in facilities nationally for people that suffer from Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome, which means their treatment will be a lot more accurate.”
