St Kilda’s recently departed 2015-listed players have finalised their next playing destinations, with most set to play at state league level in 2016.
After a 13-year career with the Saints and Sydney, Adam Schneider is set to return to grassroots level next season, with the livewire forward confirmed to pull on the boots for Victorian Amateur Football Association side Beaumaris.
Delisted duo, Arryn Siposs and Ahmed Saad, will play in the VFL for Williamstown and Coburg respectively, with the pair inking two-year deals with the Melbourne clubs.
Key forward, Spencer White, has signed with WAFL outfit Perth, heading across the country with another former Saint in Clinton Jones to join the Demons.
Following 19 games in six seasons at the Saints, Tom Simpkin has signed on the dotted line with St Kilda’s VFL affiliate Sandringham, where he is set to play his 100th game at the Zebras in 2016.
After being delisted at the conclusion of last season, experienced onballer, Farren Ray, was thrown a lifeline by North Melbourne, with the Kangaroos extending his 205-game career via the rookie draft.
Luckless medium-sized forward, Daniel Markworth, may not play football at any level next year after recently injuring his shoulder, which will require a third reconstruction, to add to the two knee reconstructions he also endured during his four injury riddled years at St Kilda.
What was said:
“I just thought it was a great opportunity for me to come on board to help the club, not just on the field but also off the field, help develop the younger players into better players, and pass on my experience and what I’ve learnt after being in the system in the last couple of years.” Ahmed Saad
“We were determined to sign a really quality key forward, we knew that it was an area we had to improve in order to hit the scoreboard next year and give more opportunities for our small forwards to kick goals. Spencer is an extremely gifted footballer. His skills are excellent, his speed for a big man is elite and he will have great opportunities on our big grounds to find space in the forward line.” Perth Demons Football Operations Manager, James Beattie
“We sat down with Farren and had some great dialogue about where he was at and felt he was a great fit for North Melbourne. Farren will add some more depth, experience and leadership to our list. He is an elite runner and with the trading of Ryan Bastinac to the Lions, we felt he would give us more options and coverage in a wing role.” North Melbourne List Manager, Cameron Joyce
“Arryn brings 28 games of experience at the highest level and has been an extremely dangerous player at VFL level. We really like his flexibility to play a number of positions and see that as a big asset to our football club. His goal kicking exploits have been well documented, but we like his ability to play as a big bodied midfielder at times as well as playing on a wing.” Williamstown Football Manager, Chris Dixon
“Tom is a quality footballer and young man who will provide valuable leadership to the playing group both on and off the field. All things going to plan, Tom will play his 100th game for Sandringham in 2016 which will be a fantastic moment for both Tom and the Club.” Sandringham CEO, John Mennie
