St Kilda has a couple of injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s trip to Perth to face West Coast, with Jack Sinclair and David Armitage facing fitness tests later in the week to determine their availability.
Sinclair was a late withdrawal from last Sunday’s seven-point loss to North Melbourne, after the second-year midfielder-forward failed to overcome a corked calf he suffered in the win over Melbourne a week earlier.
“Jack Sinclair was a late withdrawal from the game at the weekend due to a corked calf from the Melbourne game the previous week,” General Manager of Football Performance Jamie Cox told saints.com.au on Tuesday night.
“Jack is still struggling a little bit. He’ll have a test on Thursday to see whether or not he’s available for the weekend.”
Tough inside midfielder Armitage sat out the final quarter of Sunday’s game against the Kangaroos due to concussion.
Ruckman Billy Longer also missed the final quarter in the VFL due to concussion following a head knock. The pair will be assessed throughout the week before being declared fit to play this weekend.
“David Armitage missed the last quarter at the weekend. He had a delayed reaction to a head knock during the game at the weekend and missed the last quarter of the game,” Cox said.
“Billy Longer had a concussion as well during the VFL game against Collingwood.
“Both of those will have to go through the normal concussion protocols this week to be both available this week.”
After missing the last month due to injury, Cox said rebounding defender Dylan Roberton and off-season recruit Nathan Freeman should return this weekend if the pair gets through training on Thursday.
“Dylan Roberton will have a test on Thursday but he’s training really strongly after missing four weeks. But he’s due to come back and be available for selection this week,” Cox said.
“Nathan Freeman is the other one who has trained strongly now for two to three weeks.
“All going well, if he gets through training again on Thursday he’s also available for selection this week. He is likely to come back through the Sandringham development squad.”
