Four St Kilda players can accpet a fine from the Match Review Panel for engaging in a melee in the second quarter of Sunday’s 46-point win over Essendon at Etihad Stadium.
Leigh Montagna, Luke Dunstan and Sam Gilbert have all received a $1500 fine, which can be reduced to a $1000 sanction as it’s their first offence of being involved in a melee.
While Jimmy Webster has been charged with a second melee offence and can accept a $1500 fine with an early guilty plea.
David Armitage has also been charged by the MRP for engaging in rough conduct following an incident with Essendon’s Orazio Fantasia in the third quarter.
The star midfielder can accept a $1000 sanction with an early guilty plea after the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head.
The MRP also looked at the contact between Montagna and Essendon’s Mark Baguley, which sparked the melee in the second term. The panel classified the contact between the pair as insufficient force to warrant a report.
St Kilda has until 5pm on Tuesday to accept or challenge the charges.
