SANDRINGHAM vs. ESSENDON

Where: Trevor Barker Beach Oval, Sandringham

When: Sunday, 12 June

Time: 11:40am (Channel 7 telecast)

Last week:

Sandringham travelled down the highway to Simonds Stadium to tackle Geelong, winning in a two-point thriller off the back of the VFL bye. Before the bye weekend in Round 8, the Zebras defeated Werribee by 37-points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

With two consecutive wins behind them now, Sandringham find themselves in fourth position (5-2 win/loss ratio, at 119.7%) with the opportunity to challenge for a top-two spot in the coming weeks.

Essendon had their VFL bye last weekend in Round 9 following their clash with Richmond at the ME Bank Centre. The Bombers defeated the Tigers by 23-points and now sit sixth on the ladder (4-4 win/loss ratio, at 121.8%), ready to challenge for a top-four spot.

Players to watch:

Sandringham – Trent Dennis-Lane

The ex-Swan and Saint is producing a stellar season, off the back of a six goal haul against Geelong last week bringing his goal tally to 35 for the season. Taking the captaincy this season after the off-season departure of Adam Cockie, Dennis-Lane is leading from the front and providing a solid forward target.

Essendon – Jordan Schroder

The 22-year-old former Geelong listed player has become an important VFL lister for the Bombers, adding class to their midfield since his delisting from Kardinia Park at the end of 2014. Averaging 20 disposals and six tackles a game, the talented midfielder will be an important part of Essendon’s plans to expose the Sandringham midfield. Schroder is also coming off a 26 disposal game against Richmond two weeks ago.
