Emerging players Nathan Wright and Darren Minchington have signed two-year contract extensions that will see the pair remain at the Saints until at least the end of 2018.

St Kilda Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel Ameet Bains said that the re-signing of both former Dandenong Stingrays players is exciting news for the club.

“The club is thrilled to have secured the services of both Nathan and Darren for the next two years,” Bains told saints.com.au.

“In 2016 we got to see more of what they are both capable of at AFL level and we look forward to seeing their form continue to improve in the years to come.”

Taken at pick No.24 in the 2012 National Draft, Wright found improved consistency as a pressure-forward in 2016 adding 10 senior games to his tally.

The 22-year-old’s toughness saw him bounce back from multiple injuries to line-up in the senior side throughout the latter part of the season.

“Nathan’s committed approach to his training has seen him overcome injury and spend a greater amount of time in the seniors in 2016,” Bains said.

“Nathan brought a real toughness to our forward line, with his move from defence clearly adding flexibility to our line-up.”

Having made 10 senior appearances between 2013 and 2015, 22-year-old Minchington also experienced his most consistent season playing 13 games in 2016.

The midfielder-forward was originally selected at pick No. 65 in the 2012 Rookie Draft, and was elevated to the Saints senior list at the end of 2014.

“We were really happy with Darren’s season and his improved form has seen him play a greater role in the senior side,” Bains said.

“We love his tackling pressure, he is dangerous around goals and he has shown some promising midfield play – I am sure our fans will enjoy watching him continue to develop in 2017 and beyond.”
