First quarter 5 min mark

A front and centre Jack Billings crumbs the ball from 20 metres out and snaps on his left to put the Saints first goal on the board after Jacob Weitering slotting the opening goal of the game. In his 50th appearance, Billings burst out of the blocks with four disposals in the opening five minutes. Five minutes later, Billings marks the ball just beyond the arc, wheels and bangs in his second from outside 50 on that penetrating left foot. The ball doesn’t travel higher than head height the whole way home. What a start by the milestone man.

First Quarter 14 min mark

Jimmy Webster comes from the grand cradling his wrist with club physio Andrew Wallis chaperoning him all the way to the interchange bench. He is observed on the pine before heading down to the rooms with club doctors Ian Stone and Tim Barbour. After more than 20 minutes in the rooms, Webster returns to the bench in a track suit with his day done before it really gets started.

Second Quarter 24 min mark

Jack Sinclair gathers the ball deep inside defensive 50 in congestion and finds Jack Steven in a back pocket. Steven hits Mav Weller in the centre square who spins and hits Darren Minchington at centre-half forward. He holds on to the ball and waits for Jack Billings to stream inside 50. Billings slots his fourth first half goal – an equal career best – from 45 metres to halt Carlton’s momentum. To make Billings’ goal even better, he was standing next to Sinclair when he found Steven deep in defence. Billings bolted 120 metres to get on the end of another goal.

Third Quarter 13 min mark

Both ruckman trip over each other at a boundary throw deep inside St Kilda’s forward 50. Seb Ross gathers the ball on the bounce and snaps on his left for a crucial goal to put St Kilda 16-points up. Ross continues his ball winning start to the year with 20 disposals up to this point of the game, he is averaging just under 29 per game across the first seven rounds.

Fourth Quarter 9 min mark

Carlton streams forward, Patrick Cripps boots the ball inside 50 and finds Zac Fisher on the bounce who has no one between him and the goals. Caught on his non-preferred side, he turns inside and is wrapped up by Jack Sinclair who has sprinted back. If he elected to go on his right he could have kicked a certain goal, but it was Sinclair who pounced and halted the Blues’ momentum.

Fourth quarter 11 min mark

Tim Membrey marks the ball on the boundary 70 metres from goal and quickly kicks the ball inside to Seb Ross. The emerging star takes off and burns away from a chasing pack, slotting from 55 metres out to put the Saints back in front. Massive moment in the context of the game.
