Journeyman Shaun McKernan has called time on his 13-year career.
The 30-year-old was recruited to the club as a delisted free agent after 53 games at Essendon (2015-2020) and a previous 34 at Adelaide (2009-2014).
“Although my time at the Saints has been short, it’s been awesome,” McKernan said.
“I’d fallen out of love with footy a bit before coming here, but thanks to the opportunity afforded to be by Brett Ratten, James Gallagher and the rest of the club, I can hang up my boots with a real sense of enjoyment knowing I gave my career everything I had.
“I’d like to thank my partner Tayla and my whole family, especially Mum and Dad who have travelled all over the country to support me.
“To all the coaches, teammates and staff who have helped me along the way, I can’t thank you enough.”
The ruck/forward played the opening three matches of 2021 in the absences of Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall, before a toe complaint in the second half of the season limited him to just one additional game.
“We’d like to congratulate Shaun on his career,” Head of List Management James Gallagher said.
“While Shaun’s time at the Saints was brief and reduced by injury, the way he was able to gel with the group and bond with our younger players was great to see.
“We wish Shaun and partner Tayla all the best for the future, and they are both welcome back at RSEA Park at any time.”
McKernan made his debut in Round 14, 2009 after being selected by Adelaide with pick No. 28 at the 2008 National Draft.
