St Kilda’s famous No.2 guernsey will spend season 2022 hung inside the Danny Frawley Centre (DFC) for Health and Wellbeing, powered by AIA Vitality, as tribute to the club legend.
The newly built centre is set to open to the public on 7 March, and will house the jumper made famous by its namesake after it was left vacant following the retirement of Jake Carlisle at the end of 2021.
Tony Brown, St Kilda’s Player Development Manager and fellow former number 2 Saint, said the Danny Frawley Centre was the perfect home for the guernsey this year.
“The number two is an important number within the history of the St Kilda Football Club and Danny is the first person to come to mind for many Saints fans,” Brown said.
“Spud represented everything great about being part of this football club. He loved his teammates, the fans and Moorabbin almost as much as he loved his family.
“To have this guernsey hanging in the DFC in its debut year, a place specifically built to continue Danny’s legacy, means a lot to me and I know Spud would be really proud to see it here.”
The No. 7 guernsey will also have a new home this season, with Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera set to don the famous jumper heading into 2022.
Wanganeen-Milera, taken with pick No. 11 at last year’s National Draft, will look to follow in the footsteps of club greats Nicky Winmar and Lenny Hayes, who each wore the number across a combined 527-game period.
Next Generation Academy recruits Marcus Windhager and Mitch Owens will inherit the No. 17 and No. 24 respectively, while Oscar Adams (No. 27), Jack Peris (No. 45) and Josiah Kyle (No. 46) were also presented with their numbers.
Ruckman Tom Campbell assumes the No. 38 – his fourth playing number in his 10 seasons at the elite level – while Ryan Byrnes has traded out his No. 31 for the No. 13.
