The Southern Saints have mirrored their AFLW counterparts with back-to-back wins, registering a stirring 20-point victory over Geelong at Deakin University Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides were inseparable on the scoreboard prior to the main break, before three goals from AFLW-listed Saint Renee Saulitis broke the deadlock to seal the 6.3 (39) to 3.1 (19) result.
Spearheaded by Geelong’s Tamara Smith (33 disposals, 11 tackles), the home side’s early assertion on the game came from its strong first-half performance as the Saints and Cats traded majors.
It wasn’t until after the main break that Dale Robinson’s side snatched back control over proceedings, with the scoreboard finally reflecting their ascendancy on play with three unanswered goals after half-time.
Saulitis played her best game forward, aided by her side’s superiority around stoppages (17-37).
Up the other end, the Saints’ pressure down back was again a standout through the efforts of Nicki Cormack (15 disposals) Nicki Wallace (12 disposals) and Georgia McLean (11 disposals).
Hannah Stuart continued her impressive season, leading the Saints’ disposal count with 29 of her own while also managing nine tackles and eight clearances.
Alana Woodward also made a solid impact with 24 touches and seven tackles, along with Grace Buchan (16 disposals, three clearances), Rebecca Neaves (16 disposals, six tackles) and Tahlia Meyer (10).
The Southern Saints will take on league leaders Essendon at The Hangar on Sunday 13 March, with the match beginning at 11:00am.
