On Friday night under the bright lights of the MCG, Leigh Montagna will run through the banner to play his 150th game for the St Kilda Football Club.
The prolific midfielder will achieve this significant milestone after debuting for the Saints back in 2002.
Speaking ahead of his 150th AFL game, the dynamic running midfielder said it was very satisfying to reach this milestone wearing the red, white and black gurnsey.
“It’s nice recognition to have been a big part of the Saints. I’m very lucky to be playing in a team like St Kilda.”
“We’ve had a lot of wins and a lot of success recently, and it’s been a privilege to be part of the side during this recent winning era,” said Montagna.
Aged 27, Montagna is regarded as one of the elite midfielders of the AFL competition. With a swag of honours, Montagna received All-Australian selection in 2009 and 2010, represented Australia in the International Rules Series in 2008 and 2010 and was runner up in the 2010 Best and Fairest award.
Along with Montagna, another St Kilda player will celebrate a significant milestone against the Tigers with Brett Peake set to notch up 100 AFL games.
Peake was traded to St Kilda from the Fremantle Dockers at the end of 2009 and has since played 24 games for the Saints.
The electric midfielder said that reaching 100 games was a special milestone for him, saying, “To play 100 games and to play in the St Kilda jumper means a lot to me.”
