St Kilda Football Club’s football department has again been bolstered, with the club today formally appointing David Misson and Brendon Goddard to its ranks.
Misson will join the Saints as a key liaison between the faculties of coaching, high performance and medical, while Goddard will join the club as a development coach.
Both men share significant history with the Saints, having worked together during the club’s 2009/10 finals campaigns.
“We’re very pleased to welcome David and Brendon back to the club,” Executive General Manager of Football Geoff Walsh said.
“David brings over 25 years of experience to the role, having worked with the Australian men’s cricket team, across the AFL industry with Sydney, St Kilda and Melbourne, and most recently with the Sydney Roosters in the NRL.
“His ability to maximise the physical potential of an athlete and contribute to overall high performance goals of an organisation is unmatched, and we are excited to have someone of his calibre in our program.
“David will work across all areas of our program, particularly with Head of Performance and Conditioning Nick Walsh, and the physio and medical staff.
“Brendon also has clear passion for the growth of this club, having played over 200 games in the red, white and black.
“A quality player throughout his career, Brendon has been honing his coaching skills in the VAFA and we’re pleased to be welcoming him to the program to assist Damian Carroll with our player development.
“We look forward to welcoming David, Brendon and their families to RSEA Park in the coming days.”
Reflecting on a return to Moorabbin, Misson said the timing felt perfect.
“It’s been close to 10 years since I last worked at St Kilda and I'm excited to return to assist Ross, Geoff, and entire the football program to help deliver on the club’s on-field ambitions,” Misson said.
“I look forward to working across a range of operational roles, in particular high performance and medical, areas that I’m incredibly passionate about.”
Goddard, who retired in 2018 after 334 AFL games across St Kilda and Essendon, said he was eager to apply his love for coaching at a club.
“Over the past few years I’ve explored different aspects of the football industry and have really enjoyed it, particularly my recent time coaching and assisting players with their growth and development,” Goddard said.
“There’s something very unique about being inside the four walls of a footy club and to be coming back to help support the young talent at the Saints, a place I walked into as an 17-year-old, that’s really special.”
Misson and Goddard will commence their roles with the club from 7 November.
