Sandringham assistant and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson dissects the weekend's action in the VFL.

RELATED: Williamstown outplays Sandringham

Tom Hickey
It was Tom’s first game back. He had 14 disposals, was competitive in the ruck, and used the ball pretty well. But the most pleasing part was that he got back to the last line of defence and was pretty important for us behind the ball, as a ruckman should be.

Trent Dennis-Lane
Trent was busy. He ended up getting 21 touches and had a chance to kick two goals, but he was mainly involved with a lot of our play higher up the ground and then doubled back to crumb the forwards. His work-rate was really good.

Sam Dunell
I thought Sammy was our best player. He took 10 marks and kicked two goals, and was really good once again for us.

Dylan Roberton
He had a few possessions and ran the ball out of defence well, but as a defender it was disappointing that he didn’t lay a tackle. He did some good things but just needs to continue to work on his contested stuff, which I’m sure he will do.

Tom Curren
Tommy had 22 touches but didn’t take a mark or lay a tackle. In saying this, he got his fair share of the ball and was an important link-up player for us.

Sam Fisher
Fish was good until half-time when he went off injured. He used the ball when he got it – he was up around 85 per cent disposal efficiency – and we looked a lot more stable when he was out there.

Rhys Stanley
I thought he was our best tall forward on the day. He kicked some goals, lead for marks and presented well. Rhys is obviously very agile, so we would like to get a bit more defensive pressure out of him, but on the whole we were happy with his output.

Arryn Siposs
Sippo was quiet on Sunday. We moved him back in to defence when Fisher went down and he was OK down there.

Josh Bruce
Josh was serviceable on the weekend. His disposal efficiency was a bit down on his normal level but it was a windy day which made things difficult for players to hit targets regularly.

Josh Saunders
He was really lively. He booted three goals, and two of them were from really good front and centre work in the forward 50. He laid tackles and was energetic all over the ground.

Beau Maister
Beau had a quiet day. Although he didn’t get a great deal of the ball, he provided good physical contests as he always does.

Daniel Markworth
He only played about half the game because he hurt his hamstring. He was looking good though – he got into the right spots, spoiled some contests and generally played the wing quite well.

Adam Schneider
Schneids was excellent. He had 33 touches, seven tackles and booted 1.4 – really impacting the game in all areas. He pushed forward a little bit but he spent most of the game in the midfield.

Spencer White
He was lively but probably could have taken another few marks. It was a positive step up for him and now he just needs to keep raising the bar. Hopefully he can continue to build on this performance.

Jason Holmes
Holmesy had eight possessions and was competitive in the ruck. He’s getting better around the ground every week and slowly picking up the nuances of the game.

VFL Development team
Nathan Wright
Wrighty played half a game in his return from injury and looked comfortable with his typical run and drive from defence. His team was beaten fairly easily, but he held his own at half-back and got through the game which was great to see.

Lewis Pierce
Lewis was stiff to be dropped but he was good on the weekend. His work around the ground was good again and he is getting better and stronger in the ruck contest all the time. He did one particularly impressive bit of play when he centred the ball from the forward pocket and it lead to a goal.
