On the back of his best performance for the season against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday, Tom Ledger said he wanted to prove his ability at the top level.

The midfielder ran out a full game and racked up a career high of 21 disposals, capping the day off with a fourth quarter goal.

“I’ve been working on a few things and I just wanted to show that I’m good enough to play in this team and regularly,” Ledger said.

“I also wanted to prove I could run out four quarters to the coaching staff, and really have an impact in those four quarters and not let off for a quarter or two.”

Saturday’s clash with the Giants was only Ledger’s third appearance for 2012 and the first time he was given the opportunity to play a full match.

“I had a taste a couple of weeks ago (in AFL) against Melbourne where I played three quarters, but to get a full game under my belt, really helped, it’s what I needed.”

With increased game time Ledger is showing more and more promise as a midfielder.

Ledger has the privilege of playing alongside some of the best midfielders in the competition, which is invaluable to his development.

He believes he can learn from the best, saying he molds his game on St Kilda’s elite midfielders including Lenny Hayes and Leigh Montagna.

“In this team at the moment there are a couple of guys I mold myself on in Lenny (Hayes) and Joey (Leigh Montagna),” he revealed.

“I’d love to be a mix of them two, Lenny’s inside work and then Joey’s spread and uncontested work.

“I believe if I work hard enough I could be as good as those boys, I don’t know about playing 250 games but certainly I believe I could become a really good player.

“If I can be anywhere near as good as them I’d be happy.”
