An early hop from the Roos proved a bridge too far for the Saints to overcome, seeing season opener honours go the way of the home side.
North held St Kilda scoreless for the first half, and despite a pluckier third term which was largely controlled by Nick Dal Santo's side, couldn't capitalise fully on their momentum.
Nicola Xenos and Hannah Priest combined for 21 tackles, Olivia Vesely left nothing in the tank as she battled against the Roos' seasoned on-ballers, while Bianca Jakobsson fought hard in defence against former Saint, Kate Shierlaw.
