Riley Bonner will start the next chapter of his career in red, white and black, joining the club via this year’s Pre-Season Draft.
A versatile backman who can spring off the half-back line or serve as a diligent wingman, Bonner averaged 13 disposals per game this season at Alberton, predominantly in a wing role.
The 26-year-old defender was delisted by Port Adelaide at the end of the 2023 season, registering a total of 93 games for the Power after making his debut in 2016.
“We’re happy to have Riley join us at the Saints,” Executive General Manager of Football David Misson said.
“We believe Riley has some strong qualities which could complement our list and add some further depth to either our backline or outside stocks.
“We look forward to seeing Riley embrace this opportunity and look forward to welcoming him to the club.”
With Bonner’s arrival completing St Kilda’s list for Season 2024, Daniel McKenzie’s time at St Kilda has officially come to a close.
The 27-year-old did not receive a senior playing contract earlier this month following two heavily injury interrupted campaigns, with potential for the wingman to re-join the list via the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period should a spot remain available.
McKenzie played 73 games for St Kilda after making his debut in 2015, charting a career-best seasons in 2021 and 2022 before each came to a premature ends through injury.
“Dan’s commitment and dedication throughout this incredibly challenging time has been first-class, and we thank him for everything he has done for the club over the past nine seasons,” Misson said.
“Dan did everything possible to get his body right, receiving specialised medical advice and treatment during the off-season, however given the unexpected availability of late draft picks, talent on the board to bolster our list for the future and the addition of Riley, our list has unfortunately reached capacity.
“We feel we have invested everything possible into Dan and he has given his all in return, and we sincerely hope he is able to continue his career at another club with all our best wishes.”
