Richmond's Daniel Rioli has received this year's Ian Stewart Medal, polling eight of a maximum nine votes to finish one clear of runner-up, Rowan Marshall.

The running half-back had 36 disposals, 600 metres gained and 10 marks to finish as the best afield as judged by the voting panel of Alister Nicholson, Sarah Black and David Schwarze.

Marshall put in a powerful performance in the ruck to guide his side towards Sunday's 48-point victory, collecting 23 disposals, 25 hit-outs, 11 marks and three goals to stave off the Tigers at crucial times.

Meanwhile, Josh Battle earned a vote from each of the three judges in light of his efforts in defence, which came complete with 28 disposals, 10 intercepts and nine marks as the Saints kept Richmond goalless in the last term.

Named after football champion Ian Stewart, the medal pays homage to the terrific midfielder who represented both St Kilda and Richmond across an illustrious 205-game career, which came complete with three Brownlow Medals (the only player to win the award at two different clubs) and premiership, Team of the Century and Hall of Fame honours for both the Saints and Tigers.
