Tyanna Smith has opened up her account on the AFLW Players' Association Champion Player of the Year Award in near-perfect fashion, almost completing a maximum 10-vote game for her efforts against Sydney.

The 21-year-old midfielder earned nine votes for her prominent role in St Kilda's 16-point win over Sydney an an elements-affected contest at RSEA Park, collecting 20 disposals, 403 metres gained and a goal to finish the day as one of the Saints' best.

Smith's drive into attack, resolve with the Swans winning back momentum and timely major just prior to half-time all stood out in the inclement conditions, with her cleanliness at ground-level equally proficient both in the clinches and up forward.

After the first two rounds, Smith sits just outside the competition's leading vote-getters for the season; three votes from last week's victory over Gold Coast seeing her with 12 overall.

Fellow on-ballers Jaimee Lambert (four votes) and Molly McDonald (three) featured in the votes for their respective impact on the inside and outside, while defenders Nicola Stevens (five) and Paige Trudgeon (one) received acknowledgement for holding up St Kilda's backline under duress.
