St Kilda ruck Simone Nalder has today announced her retirement from AFLW.
The 34-year-old informed her Saints teammates, coaches and staff yesterday afternoon that she had decided now was the perfect time to hang up the boots.
Previously playing professional netball for the AIS, Victorian Fury and Canberra Darters, Nalder first picked up a Sherrin in 2017 for Essendon’s VFLW side. Five seasons and a premiership later, the cross-coder swapped her sash for stripes as the Saints sought ruck support in 2022.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity that was afforded to me here at the Saints. It’s been an incredible journey, made sweeter by being surrounded by wonderful teammates and staff,” Nalder said.
“Thank you to my mum, dad and husband who have been my biggest supporters throughout my whole sporting career.”
Nalder played 22 career games for St Kilda over three seasons at the club.
“Sim has been a much-loved part of our team since she first arrived at the club. We’ve valued her leadership capabilities and strength in leading our ruck stocks over the past three seasons,” EGM AFLW Tessie McManus said.
“Sim leaves knowing that she and her husband Jackson will always be part of the St Kilda family.”
