Inaugural GWS Giants star Nicola Barr will now call RSEA Park home, with the former No. 1 pick signing a three-year deal with the Saints as part of a three-way trade with the Giants and Adelaide in 2024 AFLW Trade Period.
The 61-game star has cemented herself as one of the Giants’ most consistent and versatile players over her nine seasons in the league.
Plying her trade across a variety of roles, the 28-year-old utility established herself as a premier half-back and high half-forward before transitioning to the midfield in 2023 amid a career-best season, finishing fifth in that year's GWS Best and Fairest.
A hamstring injury held Barr to just three games in her 2024 campaign, but the skilful New South Wales recruit will be looking to inject her experience and skill to bolster the Saints’ engine room in 2025.
“Nicola has been a figurehead for football in NSW and the entire competition over her past nine seasons, finishing in the top five of the Giants’ Best and Fairest on multiple occasions” EGM AFLW Tessie McManus said.
“A proven leader on and off the field, we’re very excited to welcome Nicola and her family to St Kilda.”
As part of the trade, the Saints farewell speedster Grace Kelly, who will head to the Crows to play alongside her sister, Niamh.
“Grace has been a delight to have at our club and we’re so pleased we could facilitate this trade and reunite Grace with her sister,” McManus said.
“We wish Grace all the best at the Crows, and she makes the move with our full support.”
After joining the club ahead of the 2022 Season 7 campaign, the 30-year-old Irish-born recruit represented the club across 21 senior appearances after a previous 23 games for West Coast.
