Whether it's rookies, rising stars or seasoned veterans, RSEA Park is shining with talent ready to take the red, white and black to the next level in the charge to return to September action.
These are five players that are ready to show the Saints faithful what they're made of in 2025.
Hugo Garcia
A man that many Saints fans have been calling to see more of since his first glimpse, Hugo Garcia is looking to cement his place within the Saints best 23 full-time in 2025.
Named in the side nine times in his debut season, Garcia’s flair and attack on the footy immediately endeared him to the faithful, with many hoping now that he gets a full crack at the midfield and an opportunity to maintain his spot.
Garcia averaged 45% time on ground, and averaged over four tackles a game, showing his ferocious nature and desire to win the ball back at any cost. His intense pressure and ability to stop the opponent is an attribute that coach Ross Lyon will be keen to see flourish in a rotating midfield mix.
Drafted out of the Calder Cannons, Garcia’s career is only just getting started and is looking to make 2025 a breakout year.
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera’s name has already been raised as a future superstar of the competition, and it’s become very clear why.
With a famous last name, Wanganeen-Milera has lived up to the hype and more with his incredible ability in the first three seasons of his career. Averaging over 25 disposals and 521 meters gained in 2024, the breakout season from the man they call ‘Nas’ has endeared himelf to Saints fans as the next star in the red, white and black.
Wanganeen-Milera’s accolades already speak for themselves, being named to the AFL’s 22under22 team twice and winning the club’s Best Emerging Player award in 2023, as well as being named to the Indigenous All Stars team to begin 2025.
With likely even greater responsibilities ahead of him in 2025, Wanganeen-Milera will be a key factor in the Saints rise back into September action, a place where he has already found himself in 2023 where had 23 disposals and a goal on the MCG.
Cooper Sharman
Cooper Sharman’s elevation in the past two seasons from on the outer of the starting 23 to vital member has been one that has given Saints fans plenty to be excited about.
After breaking out towards the back of the 2023 season and helping the Saints into September, Sharman grew on his improved confidence and form and found himself a reliable performer in tandem with Max King as a key forward threat.
In the absence of King, Sharman also finds his way to stand up and take the scoring load, kicking multiple goals in a game 10 times over the past two seasons.
After losing forward stalwart Tim Membrey in the offseason, Sharman’s responsibilities and targets will only grow as he forms a three-pronged attack with King and young gun Mitch Owens, and will likely be called upon to fill holes at the other end of the ground as he has on occasion in previous seasons.
Tobie Travaglia
There is a lot of hype surrounding the Saints’ first pick in the 2024 draft. Tobie Travaglia impressed scouts all throughout his final year at the Bendigo Pioneers in the Coates Talent League, earning selection in the Team of the Year averaging 24 disposals.
With his pace and running ability matching that of fellow young stars Darcy Wilson and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Travaglia will be looking to make as much of an impact as them early on in his career at Moorabbin and break into the side.
Travaglia’s ceiling is as high as any in the AFL, and under the guidance of veterans such as Brad Hill and Jack Sinclair, it is only a matter of time before he becomes a household name amongst the Saints faithful and the wider AFL community.
Jack Macrae
Three-time All Australian. Gary Ayres award. Premiership player. Jack Macrae walks into the doors at Moorabbin with a resume that any footballer would be lucky to have.
With the wealth of experience and talent at his disposal, Macrae is set to help lead the Saints emerging midfield talent and lead them into September once again, a place he has found himself seven times before in his career.
Partnering with Jack Steele in the contest, Macrae’s first-give and grunt will give the best opportunity for our much-lauded runners to thrive.
