Head of Development and Learning Damian Carroll provides an update on the AFL-listed players that represented the Zebras against the Bulldogs on Sunday.

VFL MATCH CENTRE: Round 4 v Bulldogs

BULLDOGS: 1.2 4.4 8.7 10.11
ZEBRAS: 4.6 7.8 10.9 13.11

Hugh Boxshall

33 disposals, 21 contested possessions, 11 clearances, nine tackles

Hugh had a really strong game as an inside midfielder, winning 33 possessions, 21 of them being contested, and on top of that 11 clearances and a team-high nine tackles, so he was really strong in the physical side of the game. Just worked really hard all day.

Tobie Travaglia

26 disposals, 10 contested possessions, six intercepts, two goals

Tobie enjoyed a strong game through the midfield and half-back, where we wanted to trial him as well. He was really good around the footy and pushed forward to kick a few goals for us. He had good quick hands and good use out of stoppage.

Angus Hastie

26 disposals, six clearances, five score involvements

Angus returned to the VFL side after a period in the AFL and got involved really well from stoppage and our ball movement. He provided some good leadership and talk as a second-year player. He was one of our best on the day.

Max Heath

25 disposals, 25 hit-outs, nine marks, one goal

Max was one of our better players on the day. He played predominantly forward in the first half and ruck in the second half. He took five inside-50 marks and kicked an important goal late to seal it. Competed well around the ball as a ruck.

Alex Dodson

18 disposals, four marks, four tackles, one goal

Alex played his best game at VFL level. He has been working hard on improving his forward patterns and contest ahead of the ball and took a step forward in that direction. We saw some improvements in his ruck craft too.

Liam O’Connell

12 disposals, five tackles, four intercepts

Liam played predominantly in defence and worked really hard in his return to the side. He got up the field to get involved in some chains and played his role well. We also gave him a quarter in the midfield to expose him to a different role and thought he did a good job in there winning some clearances.

Isaac Keeler

12 disposals, eight marks, 1 goal

Isaac took eight marks and looked threatening up forward on the lead and in the air. Still developing his craft as a forward but we saw some improvements returning to the VFL following his AFL exposure. He went behind the ball in different scenarios and did a good job for us.

Angus McLennan

10 disposals, four marks, three tackles

Angus was really physical and did well in finding the body of his opposition. His positioning was also a strength of his afternoon.

Alix Tauru

Seven disposals, four intercepts, three tackles, two marks

Alix was on unlimited minutes in his second game which was good to see. He really flew for his marks in the second half and got involved in the defence with a few strong spoils and relentless tackles to help deliver the win.

Harry Boyd

20 hit-outs, seven disposals, four tackles, four clearances

Harry played the first half and was then rested as the AFL emergency. He had 20 hit-outs and won a lot of free kicks, so made a big impact in a short amount of time to set up the win for us.

James Barrat

Seven disposals, three marks, three intercepts

James returned to the side and took another positive step forward in his development. He showed good intent to be physical in the contest.
