St Kilda has again bolstered its AFLW list, trading in Emma Mackie and Claudia Whitfort.
Mackie joins the club, along with picks 24 and 30, in exchange for pick 9 in the 2019 AFLW Draft.
Having spent the past two seasons at the Western Bulldogs, AFLW Senior Coach Peta Searle says Mackie will bring invaluable experience to the list.
“Emma has spent the past few years playing AFLW with the Dogs and was also captain of Hawthorn’s VFLW premiership side last year,” Searle said.
“She’s a really experienced, good senior footballer who will really help unite and lead our largely young group.
“We believe Emma will bring a level of professionalism to the playing group and will be instrumental in driving the standards both on and off the field.”
Searle had similar praise when asked about Whitfort.
“Claudia has two years of AFLW experience at Melbourne under her belt and she’s still only 19 years old,” Searle said.
“She’s really fast and powerful and brings a level of versatility to the list.
“Claudia has played across the half-back wing for Melbourne, but we believe that with her talent and abilities she could really make an impact wherever we place her.”
The deal sees Whitfort join the Saints alongside pick 63 from the Demons, in exchange for picks 54 and 72.
