A vital part of our move to RSEA Park at Moorabbin has been the naming of rooms and areas in honour of people who have had a deep and lasting involvement with St Kilda Football Club.
The Club took great pleasure in arranging for those great people, or their families, to tour the new complex and see their names emblazoned on the new building.
It was fantastic to gather so many leading members of the St Kilda family.
PHOTOS: Saints greats recognised
Neil Roberts stands in front of the room named in his honour.
Ninety-year-old Norma Barker – the mother of Saints hero Trevor was there along with Trevor’s former partner Melinda Matthews and Trevor’s former manager Jeff Joseph. Peter Jeans, the son of Allan, was there to represent the Jeans family.
Joanne Whiffin and her partner, former Saints player Peter Brown, were thrilled to see the Ken Whiffin Medical and Player Prep area named in honour of the beloved former trainer.
The two most famous names in terms of the club’s administration were former president Graham Huggins and secretary Ian Drake and the new boardroom is named in their honour. Graham’s son Geoffrey and Ian’s widow Jan and daughters were impressed by the new facility.
It was a joy to see John Beveridge, Neil Roberts and Robert Harvey enjoy the guided tour conducted by President Peter Summers and having the chance to check out the rooms named in their honour.
All in all, it was a fine way to give recognition to people whose efforts and loyalty meant so much.
