As part of the club’s historic round 21 #PrideGame, St Kilda has launched the Saints Welcoming Committee (SWC).

CEO Matt Finnis said, sadly, we know from research that many in the LGBTIQ community do not feel safe at sporting events and do not feel they can truly be themselves at sporting clubs.

“The Saints Welcoming Committee is another way our fans and the wider community can show the LGBTIQ community that they are welcome at our games and sport and hopefully help them feel more comfortable to be themselves at their sporting club,” he said.

Anyone can add their name to the SWC and, by doing so, are pledging to make positive change by:

  • Helping everyone feel safe and welcome attending games of footy
  • Helping everyone feel safe to truly be themselves at sporting clubs
  • Speaking-up if family, friends or teammates use homophobic language.

Everyone who signs up to the SWC will:

  • Have their name shown on big screen at the #PrideGame
  • Have their name shown on the St Kilda website
  • Go into the running to win 1 of 20 scarves or beanies.
