Sandringham senior coach and St Kilda development coach Paul Hudson runs a ruler over the individual performance of the Saints-listed players following Sunday's loss to Box Hill.

MATCH REPORT: Lee stands tall in Sandringham loss

VFL ROUND 6: Stats

Tom Simpkin

Tom played his usual role down back. His attack on the ball was excellent and he finished with six tackles. At the moment we’re working with Tom on having clean hands below his knees, but we were happy with his efforts on the weekend.

Ahmed Saad

Ahmed didn’t have much of an influence although he did have one really good chase down. Things didn’t quite fall his way which can happen sometimes as a small forward.

Hugh Goddard

Hugh was OK. He took eight marks in defence but just got caught off his man occasionally. This wasn’t because he was trying to play loose, but more a result of not defending quickly enough if there was a turnover up the field.

Darren Minchington

Darren played in the midfield and across half-forward. He had 12 touches, kicked a goal and had two score assists, but we need him to find a way to get into the game when he’s forward a little bit more. It’s easier said than done because that small forward role is certainly challenging.

Tom Curren

Tommy had 17 touches and kicked a goal late in the game. He had six kicks and 11 handballs – ideally we would like that to be the other way around. He played a similar role to Minchington, rotating between midfield and forward.

Brodie Murdoch

Brodie showed glimpses and he will take time because he is only a couple of games back. He played on the wing and even drifted forwards occasionally, although he didn’t hit the scoreboard.

Tom Lee

Tommy had 11 marks and did really well in that area. 16 of his 17 possessions were kicks and to be honest, that is his strength so we are happy that he is using his leg. A couple of times he got caught in the wrong position defensively, but on the whole his game was excellent.

Paddy McCartin

Paddy worked hard up forward, finishing with three goals. He competed all day and had 14 touches all over the ground. When he doesn’t mark it, he always brings it to ground so at the very least he provides a good contest for us.

Josh Saunders

Josh had 23 touches but was another one whose kick to handball ratio was the wrong way around. We’ll continue to work with him to break that habit because when he does kick it, he often finds a target. He just needs to back his foot skills a bit more.

Seb Ross

Seb really imposed himself in his first game back. He was strong in the contest and just needs to get the ball on a little bit quicker, whether that be rolling onto his left foot after a mark or via a releasing handball. He got through unscathed and we were happy with his efforts.

Injury news: Super six set for return

Nathan Wright

We gave Nathan the job on Hawthorn’s Jed Anderson for the first half. He kept him relatively quiet with just six touches. In the third and fourth quarters we moved Wrighty to half-back to try and get some more run and he even spent some time on the ball.

Jason Holmes

Jason was good for us. His follow up was good and work-rate around the ground also excellent.

Spencer White

Spencer had a quiet day but did a couple of good things. He had three shots at goal and eight disposals.

Farren Ray

Farren had 21 touches on the wing at half-back. He didn’t have the impact that he did the week before but still had an influence on the game and provided great run and ball use for us.

DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
Brenton Payne

Brenton had a solid match and covered the ground really well. He’s constantly improving aspects of his game and because he’s versatile and can play a number of different roles.

Lewis Pierce

Lewis won the bulk of the ruck work and also took some strong marks around the ground. He had a real influence on the contest.
