CEO Matt Finnis has urged supporters to throw their support behind our AFLW team today despite the game being closed to crowds.
Finnis said the club supported the decision of the Victorian Government as part of their containment measures.
“We know the current situation goes beyond sport and that measures put in place are aimed at protecting the heath and safety of everyone, but especially those in our community who are most susceptible to the virus,” Finnis said.
“We have been overwhelmed with the support of our AFLW side this season to date and know today’s game against fellow newcomers Richmond has been eagerly awaited by our fans.
“Our team of staff will do everything they can to provide insights and updates across our digital channels as the game unfolds.
“We will continue to work closely with the AFL in the coming days and weeks after confirmation that men’s AFL season would also begin without crowds in attendance.
“As I wrote to members yesterday, we are undertaking a great deal of planning to work through impact on the whole club, from our members, partners, supporter groups and other stakeholders.
“We will keep you updated in the coming days and I reiterate that our members will remain at the forefront of our decision making.”
“We ask for your understanding and continued support as we navigate through this.”
