The curtain was drawn prematurely on St Kilda’s inaugural season tonight as the AFL opted to fast-track an AFLW Finals Series.
The Saints were due to play Collingwood this Sunday at Victoria Park before travelling to Perth to play West Coast in Round 8.
With the threat of the disruption due to COVID-19 containment measures deemed too great, the AFL made the decision to end the 2020 home and away season two rounds early.
While understanding of the situation, It’s a disappointing end to what can only be judged as a hugely promising opening campaign for the Saints.

Peta’s Searle’s young side saw several young future stars of the competition take the field and remained highly competitive throughout.
The inaugural Saints AFLW season finishes at 2 wins 4 losses, with three rising star nominations in Georgia Patrikios, Olivia Vesely and Caitlin Greiser.
Greiser started an unknown and finished one of the most formidable names in the competition, leading the league’s goalkicking tally with 10.
