The St Kilda football club is pleased to announce Mr Peter Summers has been elected as the club’s next president.

Mr Summers, who has served as a board member for the past five years, will officially assume the role from current president Mr Greg Westaway after this year’s Trevor Barker Medal count on Friday, September 6.

Mr Westaway, who has been a member of the club for more than 50 years, has served as president for the maximum six year term allowed under the club’s constitution. During his term of office, the club played in three Grand Finals and established a high performance training facility at Seaford.

“I was flattered to have been given custody of the club as president of the club for the past six years. Peter is a very capable person to continue with our strategy to get us to where we need to be,” Mr Westaway said.

Mr Summers, who was elected by his fellow club directors earlier this month to the role of President, paid tribute to his predecessor:

“Greg has been a terrific President of the St Kilda Football Club, taking on the role during the difficult period for the club. I know Greg would have loved to have seen St Kilda achieve its second flag under his leadership but I am sure that the foundations he and the Directors that have served under him have laid will play a large part in that goal ultimately being achieved,” Mr Summers said.

Mr Summers, who is the Managing Director and CEO of residential developer AVJennings, said he is delighted to take the baton from Greg Westaway.

“As a member of the club for well over 40 years, it is an honour to be elected as the incoming President of the St Kilda Football Club,” Mr Summers said.

“The smooth transition to the new leadership team is an indication that the board is confident that we have the right people and structures in place to not only advance current strategies but to take on the challenges that the club and the football industry in general face," Mr Summers said.
