TOM Curren spent the first 16 weeks of 2013 toiling away relentlessly in the VFL.

His work ethic, form and appetite for the football shone through, and eventually the rookie was rewarded with a senior birth – starting as the sub against Port Adelaide in round 17.

The 21-year-old never looked back, finishing the season with seven AFL games and averaging 22 possessions in the last month of the year.

Not only did Curren find his own footy, but he also spent time on Daniel Hannebery and Sam Mitchell – matching both stars in every facet.
Curren shapes as one of St Kilda’s most promising players, and has a bright future ahead of him.

His excellent year ended with the Robert Harvey Most Professional Player Award at the Saints best and fairest night in early September.

Development coach Tony Micale:

“Tom had an excellent season. He had a great attitude, never gave in and kept working towards an AFL call-up and when it came he took it with both hands.

He played some accountable roles on some very good opponents. Tom’s contested ball and decision making were very good from the outset and we look forward to his continued improvement.”
