Tonight a very special book will be launched in Tasmania, which recognises the great achievements of past St Kilda player and Hall of Fame Legend, Darrel Baldock.

Written by longtime friend Peter Lyons, “Darrel Baldock: the incomparable ‘Mr Magic’” has only taken two years to complete, but compiles a lifetime of stories from St Kilda’s only Premiership Captain.

Speaking to saints.com.au Mr Lyons said; “I’ve know Doc for well over 50 years and I’ve been a friend of his for all of that time.”

“He is a football Legend; he races pigeons successfully; he could have been a test class cricketer had that been his chosen sport; he is a most successful horse breeder and trainer; plus he was a cabinet minister in Tasmania and could have had the opportunity to become Premier of the State, but he knocked it back because of his modesty.”

“There is just an incredible aura about the man and the fact that he succeeded in whatever he took up. And on top of that was his modesty - I don’t think I have ever met a more modest champion in any form of activity.”

The Honourable Peter Underwood AC, Governor of Tasmania will be a special guest of the launch to be hosted by Channel 7’s Neil Kerney, and attended by Darrel along with a number of teammates from the 1966 St Kilda Premiership side. Held at the Latrobe Football Club, it is a fitting venue to celebrate the great achievements of Baldock, who returned to Tasmania and coached La Trobe to four Premiership wins after his time with the Saints.
