The St Kilda Football Club has raised over $2000 at a ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ lunch held at the Linen House Centre in Frankston today.

Supporting the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea and local cancer support service, the Peninsula Wig Library, St Kilda players, coaches and staff enjoyed a sit down meal generously supplied by Spudbar.

Special guests from the Wig Library, Liz Schepers, Lee Day and Kris Mcaree, also attended the lunch and accepted a modest donation of $500 from the Club.

The Peninsula Wig Library supports local women undergoing chemotherapy treatment with wigs, scarves and support for free. The Wig Library helps hundreds of women in the Frankston area and largely relies on donations, with wigs costing between $300 and $500 each.

Since the organisation was formed in 2008, the Wig Library has assisted over 500 women through their free service.

St Kilda Football Club CEO Michael Nettlefold, who presented the donation to Lee Day from the Wig Library, said that every little bit helps in the fight against cancer.

“Cancer touches the lives of so many in our community that we thought it was important for the St Kilda Football Club to hold this lunch and raise some funds.”

“The St Kilda Football Club is proud to support such a worthwhile cause and such a valuable local service.”

“Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a fantastic initiative and we know our modest contribution will be put to good use by the Cancer Council and the Wig Library.”

“The Saints encourage everyone to get behind this great event and help raise money for much needed research, education, prevention and support services.”

St Kilda Football Club staff member, Kerry Hann, used the Mornington Peninsula Wig Library during her own personal battle with breast cancer a few years ago, and said that the free organisation provided outstanding support for her during a testing period of her life.

“The women at the Wig Library were just amazing for me. As soon as I walked through the door they were friendly and helpful; they sat me down and showed me all the different options they had available.”

“The Mornington Peninsula Wig Library provided outstanding free support in such a difficult time for me.”

“I’m really glad that the St Kilda Football Club could hold today’s fundraiser, so that we could raise valuable funds and I could personally say thanks for everything they did for me,” said Hann.

Locally, 631 Frankston residents are diagnosed with cancer each year and last year around 938 people from Frankston utilised the Cancer Council's Cancer Information and Support Service.

Last year 148 Frankston Biggest Morning Tea hosts raised more than $36,000 for Cancer Council Victoria. Already, 134 Frankston locals have registered to host a Biggest Morning Tea in May.
