No less than six Southern Saints have been selected to play in Season 2019 of the AFLW after the National Draft was held on Tuesday morning.
Sandringham Dragons utility Eleanor Brown led the Saints’ charge in the draft order, nabbed by the Western Bulldogs at pick No. 10 overall.
Another Southern Saints utility in Charlotte Wilson was then selected in the second round by the Blues at pick No. 27.
The third round of selections saw two Southern Saints reunions, with midfielder Selena Karlson (pick No. 34) joining Brown at the Bulldogs and spearhead Courteney Munn (pick No. 36) to once again share the locker room with Alison Drennan at North Melbourne.
Ex-volleyball star and Southern Saints Best & Fairest-winner Rhiannon Watt (pick No. 40) will join Wilson at the Blues, while the Demons snagged Shelley Heath at pick No. 44.

While St Kilda won’t enter the AFLW until 2020, Head of Emerging Football Programs Jamie Cox was rapt with the Southern Saints’ success in the draft.
“It’s just brilliant to see all the girls’ hard work paying off,” he told saints.com.au.
“But it’s also a credit to Peta Searle, Nathan Burke and the whole team of staff who’ve thrown their weight behind the women’s program here at the Saints.
“To have six girls taken in the draft, as well as Ali Drennan having already signed up to North Melbourne, it’s a pretty good indication that we’re heading in the right direction.”
