When it comes to standing on the shoulders of giants, countless Australian musicians can attest to reaching such lofty heights thanks to Michael Gudinski.
From the soaring riffs of the Skyhooks, the iconic pop numbers of Kylie Minogue and the guttural, unmistakeable rock ballads of Jimmy Barnes, all launched into stardom courtesy of the larger-than-life music promoter and record label founder.
The 68-year-old sadly passed away in his sleep on Monday night, leaving behind an irreplaceable and enduring legacy on the Australian music industry.
Today we mourn the loss of an Australian music giant and lifelong Saint.

Gudinski’s passion extended well beyond music, however. He was an avid Saints man, was a much-loved presence at club functions and served on St Kilda’s Board as Vice-President during the early 2000s.
In tow with close friend and St Kilda figurehead Molly Meldrum, the pair would ensure international megastars were decked out in red, white and black.
St Kilda will wear black armbands in memory of Michael Gudinski during Thursday night’s AAMI Community Series match against Carlton.
“Michael’s enthusiasm for the Saints was boundless,” St Kilda CEO Matt Finnis said.
“Michael personified the unique spirit of St Kilda through his passion and his creativity. He was a friend to rock stars and the homeless, and would treat each the same.
“Between them, Michael and his mate Molly Meldrum initiated a generation of global musicians as Saints supporters.
“We’ll always be grateful for having such a passionate ambassador at large support our club.”
Michael is survived by his wife Sue, son Matt and partner Cara, daughter Kate and husband Andrew and their children Nina-Rose and Lulu.
