Senior Coach Brett Ratten says his team must look to address its scoring efficiency and regain confidence following a 54-point loss to Port Adelaide on Sunday.

Speaking to media post-match, Ratten put down the fade in confidence to a lack of continuity and issues adjusting to the rule changes brought in this season.

"I think [we're lacking] a bit of continuity in our team. [Rowan] Marshall has played two games this year, [Zak] Jones didn't play the first game and missed last week," Ratten said.

"Our style of play isn't shining through how we'd like it to. So, there's a few things there but I think we need to get some confidence back.

"The game's changed too and [we're struggling] to adjust the rotations and the length of games, but players are trying to find a way.”

St Kilda’s ruck stocks could also be bolstered, with Ratten confirming that Paddy Ryder would be in position for selection following a strong showing in the VFL.

The All-Australian ruckman nabbed 32 hit-outs, 18 disposals and one goal in his first competitive hit-out of the season, helping to cement his return to the senior level.

“He played pretty well yesterday,” Ratten said.

“To have Paddy back, it’ll allow us to do things with (Rowan Marshall), and Paddy can go forward and mark it. Yesterday he marked the ball really well, it was pretty slippery in the second half.

“It’s the same with Marshall as well. When we put Marshall forward, he looked a real threat but you can’t have him in two spots.”

Adding to St Kilda’s woes, midfielder Bradley Hill was subbed off with an Achilles injury, and will be touch and go for the Saints’ clash with Hawthorn.

“He’s got a bit of Achilles awareness,” Ratten said.

“He’s a bit tight there, he’ll be a test for next week, but especially after Gresham snapping his (Achilles), we’re certainly not taking any risks with that.”

St Kilda will aim to turn their season around when they host Hawthorn in the Blue Ribbon Cup next Saturday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.
