A life sized bronze statue of St Kilda legend Darrel Baldock has been unveiled in his home state Tasmania.

Several hundred people gathered at Latrobe Recreation ground on Monday to witness the unveiling.

As well as being a star of the Saints, including the captain of the 1966 premiership team, Baldock skippered Latrobe to four premierships.

Fellow Tasmanian, commentator Tim Lane hosted the ceremony and spoke glowlingly of Baldock’s legacy as a Tasmanian great.

As well as the statue, the memorial includes a garden and story boards detailing his career.

Baldock passed away two years ago at the age of 72.
