7 disposals, 1 goal
He injured his ankle in the last quarter but before this he was OK. We'd like him to get more of the ball but when he does find it, he's certainly dangerous.
RELATED: VFL match report
Darren Minchington9 disposals, 1 goal
Minchi probably played about 60 per cent of the game as a small forward. He kicked a really classy goal but copped a corky in the third quarter and could barely run by the last term.
Dylan Roberton
21 disposals, 7 rebound 50s
He had 10 handball receives and finished with 21 touches. He started to provide some run as the game wore on and was at his best in the final term.
We probably needed that run earlier in the game but it was pleasing that he got his hands on the ball eventually.
Brodie Murdoch
11 disposals, 1 goal
Brodie had a couple of nice long kicks and booted a good goal. He was good in the contest but I’d like to see him work a bit harder to get some loose ball.
Beau Maister
10 disposals, 1 goal
From a GPS perspective Beauy worked really hard and covered the ground. He could probably take another six marks per game and he has to either use his strong body, or just launch himself at the ball and not just jump vertically.
Mind you, he took six marks and worked extremely hard to work his defender over.
Seb Ross
17 disposals
Seb had half the number of disposals that he had last week and while he normally thrives on the contested ball, his uncontested work was up on Saturday.
He had six tackles, applied some pressure and had a shot at goal. At the end of the day Footscray’s midfield was able to spread a lot quicker than we did, but Ross was ok.
Daniel Markworth
10 disposals
It was quite a narrow ground so he wasn’t able to get out in space as much as he normally does. It’s an area he has to improve on but in saying that, he did have six contested possessions.
We need more handball receives from him. He’s so quick so the more we can get the ball into his hands the better.
FEATURE: The forgotten man
Jason Holmes5 disposals, 26 hit outs
Jason Holmes was double-teamed by two quality ruckman in Tom Campbell and Ayce Cordy and he took a big lesson out of the game. I asked him after the game if he looked to change his angles or anything, and his reply was “no, but I will next time.”
He was probably on top of the world after beating Tom Bellchambers and he was still competitive on Saturday, but it was a really good learning curve for him.
Spencer White
8 disposals
Spencer didn’t get a lot of the ball. He had his chances to take more marks but just couldn’t bring them down. That’s where he needs to improve: If he can mark better, than he will become an AFL footballer. He’s working hard so he’s not far away from a big performance I reckon.
Sam Dunell
14 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal
Sammy was our best player, there is no question about that. The only thing about Sammy is that he didn’t nail a couple of chances. But his marking, his work rate and his jumping was of the highest quality.
His leading was also really good. Sam has been up and about for about three weeks and is really pressing his case. He’s playing as a sort of link man, dropping into holes and leading up from half forward.
He’s very diligent, he’s a good leader and we’re really impressed with his thoroughness and preparation too. He dots the i’s and crosses the t’s.
Shane Savage
17 disposals, 1 goal
Shane played a half on the wing and a quarter in defence and then we got him in onto the ball. We probably should have done that earlier in the game.
He used his legs really well in the last term and he proved that he’s the quickest guy out there once he gets going. He’s capable of kicking more goals too.
Tom Simpkin
14 disposals
In the last quarter we threw him forward and he showed the guys how to take a mark, basically. He just clunked it and used great physicality which he always does so well.
Tommy launches himself, attacks the footy and he doesn’t care who is in his way. We were under the pump down back early but he competed well. His nickname is Road Kill and you can see why.
Tom Lee
10 disposals, 1 goal
Tommy will be the first to admit that he was a bit disappointing. He only had the 10 touches and he just needs to work hard on his running and contested marking this week so he can be primed for next week.
Joe Baker Thomas
Development League
I wasn’t there but he spent some time in the forward line and some time in defence. He’s getting better at certain things every week. We need to remember that he’s 17 and is still very much learning the game.
